If you get a letter from M1 Finance about unclaimed property linked to your brokerage account and you’re certain you’ve been active as per the terms and conditions, they likely sent it in error.
Earlier today, March 3, 2026, I received a letter from M1 Finance from PO Box 66502, London, KY 40742, warning me that my brokerage account could become Abandoned Property.
Here’s a screenshot of the letter and what the letter said verbatim.

RE: Brokerage Account
Dear
According to our records, you appear to be the owner of, or have an interest in, the unclaimed property identified above. Abandoned property laws require us to remit unclaimed property to the state of the address that appears on the account if we do not have confirmation of (i) the owner’s correct address and/or (ii) his or her knowledge of the property after a period of inactivity. For security and privacy reasons, the full account number is not shown.
If we do not receive a response within 30 days of the date of this letter, the funds will be reported to the state of California no later than 10/31/2026. At that time, the property will be placed in the custody of California to whom all future claims should be directed. Property that is not legal tender of the United States may be sold by the state administrator or treasurer.
Therefore, please check one of the boxes below, fill out the form in its entirety and return the form to us in the envelope provided. Please maintain a copy of the completed form for your records.
If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact us at 312-600-2883 or email help@m1.com.
The above address is correct, and I am aware of the account.
The above address is incorrect. I authorize M1 Finance LLC to change the address on the referenced account, as well as any identically registered accounts.
Note: If signature and Tax ID are not completed payment will be transferred to the state.
California claimants: This notice is being sent because the account has been inactive for 3 years and there has been no customer activity in the past 2 years. The report date on this notice is reflective of the notice report submission date. The funds will be remitted by June 15th of the following year (December 15th for Life Insurance). Your response may include providing personal information to us for purposes of preventing your property from being reported to the State as unclaimed property.

M1 Finance responds, informing me it was sent in error.
M1 Finance e-mailed me prior, informing me the letter was sent in error.
Here’s a screenshot of their reply and what it says verbatim.

“Recently you may have received a letter regarding your M1 Finance account and a lack of recent activity. This letter was sent in error, and your account is not at risk of being escheated to your state of residence.”
“There is no action required on your part. You can disregard the letter received and continue to utilize your M1 account as you ordinarily would.”
“Please let us know if you have any questions.”
Other M1 Finance customers on Reddit report the same.
If you’re wondering if you’re the only one who got the notice, it seems dozens of other Redditors got it too.

If you’re certain your account is active and is not subject to a period of inactivity, got the letter and have no sign of their e-mail saying they sent it in error, it would behoove you to contact them
